X68000 - Using switch.x for Human68k Unlike on modern personal computers which have the bios configuration screen built into the bios, the X68000's bios is actually configured by a DOS utility called switch.x. This invaluable utility enables you to change all the important aspects of the machines operation such as available memory and how many hard drives are installed in the machine. For starters, you'll need to download the Human68k system disk if you haven't already. This contains all the important DOS programs, including switch.x. Pop this disk in slot A of EX68 and boot up with it. When you get to the prompt, type switch.x and press enter. You should get a screen that looks like this. We only have to change a couple things to get most games at least working. The first, and most common problem that will cause a game to not work is not enough memory. By default EX68 is only configured to use 2 MB of ram(I think). For safety's sake, I set it to 12 MB. Just use the arrow keys to scroll down to the MEMORY option, hit enter, and scroll through the values. Hit escape when done. We'll also need to change the SRAM option. I'm not entirely sure what this does, but some games require it, so just change it so its set to Ramdisk. You might also want to change the XCHG option. This changes how some of the characters show up. If you're used to using an English version of MS-DOS, try setting it to 7. If your really dont care, you can just leave it as the default, it'll still work the same. The last option you'll need to change is HD_MAX. This changes the number of hard drives available to the system. I use 4 hard drives for various things. One dedicated to games, another to SX-Windows, the other two for miscellaneous projects. When you're done, scroll to the last option, hit enter, then hit Y. It'll boot you back to DOS. Before you can do anything, BE SURE TO SHUTDOWN the emulator with the power menu option. This saves the SRAM and makes sure that the options will still be changed when you start up the emu again. You should now be ready to run pretty much any game and SX-Windows!
